Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ChengYoung / the LicenseDesktop project ("we", "us") handles information when you use our website and software. We are an independent developer project and keep data collection to a minimum.

1. Information we collect

• Order email address — provided by you when purchasing a license, used to deliver your activation code and receipts.
• Machine code — a device identifier generated by the software, used only to bind an activation code to a machine (license activation). The machine code is generated and used locally; it is not transmitted to us.
• Local logs & diagnostics — the software keeps local log files (application events, errors/warnings, version/build info) to diagnose and fix issues. Logs are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded automatically. They leave your device only if you actively share them (for example, by exporting logs when contacting support). Log contents are sanitized: they do not include your personal files, your activation codes, or account passwords.
• Anonymous visit statistics — the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and visitors (country, referrer, pages). This is aggregate and anonymous: no cookies, no IP stored, no personal data. You can block it with standard browser privacy/ad-blocker tools.

We do not collect payment card numbers, bank details, or other financial information. Payments are processed entirely by our payment provider (see below).

2. Third-party services

• Creem (Merchant of Record) — processes payments, collects applicable VAT/GST/sales tax, and handles checkout. Creem's handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy.
• GitHub — hosts this website (GitHub Pages) and software releases (GitHub Releases). GitHub's terms apply to those services.
• Cloud services — optional update/backup features may use cloud storage; these are limited to software update metadata and encrypted backups you explicitly enable.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — anonymous website visit statistics (page views, country, referrer). No cookies, no personal data; counts are aggregate and can be blocked by browser ad/analytics blockers.

3. How we use information

• Deliver activation codes and provide license verification.
• Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
• Comply with legal obligations (e.g. tax records).
• Diagnose and fix issues based on logs you choose to share with us.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data retention & security

We retain order records only as long as needed for licensing, support and legal/tax compliance. Access to license-signing keys is protected and signing happens on your own machine. No license keys are sent to our servers.

Local log files are kept only as long as needed for diagnostics and are rolled over automatically; you can delete them at any time by clearing the app data. If you enable update statistics in the app (off by default), we receive an anonymous update report (app version + update result only, no personal data) to improve update reliability; you can disable it at any time. If we later introduce automatic crash/error reporting, we will update this policy first and obtain consent where required.

5. Your choices

You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you, subject to applicable law and our record-keeping obligations. You may also delete the local logs stored on your device at any time.
